Local Hair Salons Partner with Biolage and the Conservation Fund to Raise Money for the J.N. “Ding” Darling  National Wildlife Refuge and Support the Biolage Go GRE.E.E.N Campaign 

September 15, 2008 (Sanibel Island, Florida) Over 60 hairstylists from three Sanibel Island area C.R.A.F.T. Rewards salons gathered at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge to celebrate the culmination of the Biolage Bottle Back Campaign, and to help conserve the environment. The day-long event marked the conclusion of a two month long contest between local salons as part of the Biolage Go GRE.E.E.N Campaign. This Biolage Bottle Back program pledged to donate $3 for every Biolage bottle consumers returned to the participating salons and $1 for every non-Biolage, professional haircare bottle returned during the contest to the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society.

After breakfast and introductions with Biolage representatives, stylists took buses out to Shell Mound where they worked hard to clear non-native plants from the land that eliminate valuable food sources for local species. They then planted native trees and plants that provide nourishment and attract animals. Upon returning to the refuge’s education center, stylists were treated to lunch and invited to sign the Go GR.E.E.E.N pledge board where they shared their thoughts and feelings about environmental conservation. Representatives from Biolage spoke about the brand’s green initiatives, and offered quick and easy ways for salon owners to go green. After announcing that more than 7,000 empty bottles had been collected during the Biolage Bottle Back Campaign, each of the participating salons received a certificate that thanked them for their involvement, and Steel Magnolias salon was recognized as the Biolage Select GRE.E.E.N Salon of the year. The event culminated with the presentation of a check for $7,000 to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on behalf of Biolage.
