For the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Matrix stylist Mark Townsend, who works at Sally Hershberger salons in LA and NYC, wanted to give January Jones a gorgeous, modern hairstyle to match her beautiful Andrew Gn dress. He first applied Biolage Volumizing Whipped Mousse to her damp hair and blow dried it with a Spornette Mixed Bristle Round Brush. Next, he took three inch sections of hair and sprayed them with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Volume Protective Dry Mist and wrapped each section around a GHD 1 1/2 inch curling iron and set for 15 minutes. When all the hair was set and curled he took out the pins and brushed out the curls with a Mason Pearson flat brush. The end result was a soft yet modern look that played up January's natural beauty.
For Amy Adams, as soon as Matrix stylist Mark Townsend saw her beautiful dress, he knew her hair should be in an updo. He first applied Vavoom Height Of Glam Volumizing Foam to her damp hair and blow dried it with his fingers -- no brushes allowed! When all her hair was dry, he took a dollup of Biolage Molding Souffle in his hands and raked it through Amy's hair. Next, he gathered all her hair at the back of her head and twisted it into a large, messy bun, securing it with several bobby pins. To make sure the style lasted all night, he finished the look off by spraying her hair all over with Vavoom ShapeMaker Extra-Hold Shaping Spray.
For nominee Amy Adams' Golden Globes hairstyle, Matrix Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend was inspired by Amy's natural beauty and the gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz earrings she chose to wear with her gown.
Because Amy's dress was so stunning and dramatic, Mark decided to keep her hair soft and natural. He did not want to change her natural texture so he decided to let her hair air dry. Once the hair was dry, Mark took random three to four inch sections of her hair and sprayed each with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Control Protective Dry Mist, and then wrapped the hair around a 1 ½ inch curling iron from root to end. To finish the look, Mark wanted to showcase the earrings, so he took the side sections of her hair, pulled them back and secured them with bobby pins, leaving a few strands of hair out on each side to keep the style looking young and modern.
For January Jones, Matrix Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend decided to take a glamorous old Hollywood look and bring it into modern times. Mark was inspired by Veronica Lake’s classic waves, but for this look, he wanted to mess them up just a little bit to give the style an edge.
Mark first applied a dollop of Biolage Volumizing Whipped Mousse to January's wet hair and blow dried it with a medium Spornette mixed bristle round brush. He then parted her hair on the side part and took two inch sections of hair, spraying each with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Control Protective Dry Mist and wrapping the hair around a 1 ½ inch curling iron, and then securing the curl with a hairpin. When all her hair was set in barrel curl s, Mark let them cool for about 15 minutes. Once the hair had cooled down, Mark removed the hair pins and brushed her hair with a Mason Pearson brush so the hair fell into 1940s waves. To finish, he sprayed the hair with Biolage Shine Endure Spritz for hold and shine that lasted throughout the night.
According to C.R.A.F.T. Styling and Finishing, the modern-day pixie, with its soft detailed edges and minimal volume, is a perfect choice for those individuals with either a square or a triangular face shape. The cut and style soften the lines of the facial structure by adding slight visual fullness at the top of the head and at the same time directing the eye upward. The cut places subtle volume above the jaw line while the softness of the perimeter serves to round out an angular face shape resulting in an appealing and flattering effect. 1st seek professional consultation- go to the salon locator and make an appointment with a matrix colorist.
Depending on your natural/existing level- to remain more natural looking you should only go 2 levels darker than what your natural is otherwise you get roots in 2 weeks and it does look fake. Ask your colorsist for a dimensional color. They will deepen and take on the tone of the darker but will not reach the same depth and as a result, will look more like natural color does- your end result will be dark with dimension instead of solid color.
How often should anyone use Curl.life?
If your curl is:
I want to try your new products for curly hair. Mine is wavy/curly, fine, brown, some gray on the top roots area with lighter ends and top layer due to the environment. I just have a brownish gold color pulled through. I live in Arizona, so it is dry!
I want moisture yet some separation in the curls. I see the Curl.life Contouring Cream and the Contouring Milk. What is the difference? Should I also use a wax or something at the end?
Also, at times I blow it out, what is the best to use for smoothing hair such as mine yet giving it body?
I really appreciate your help!
Here's the difference between Curl.life Contouring Creme and Contouring Milk. Contouring Creme will give your curls definition, moisture and conditioning benefits, and very soft effects. Contouring Milk will offer the same benefits . Contouring Milk contains ultra light styling waxes and silicones for extra control and also help to boost body into your fine hair. You can use both products on wet hair and add more for extra definition when your hair is dry. They are both light and will not weigh your hair down. Because of the environment in Arizona, I suggest the Contouring Milk.
